Shadow of the Colossus: The Movie

Today Daedelus and I were theorizing over where The Last Guardian may fit within the stories of Ico and Shadow of the Colossus (SotC) Which later reminded me of a terrible fact:

Sony is making a damned Shadow of the Colossus movie.

Game Soundtracks

In the comments for yesterday’s article, Daedelus and I got to talking about video game soundtracks. So today it seemed appropriate to follow-up with another nostalgic article looking back this time not on games exactly, but on important game soundtracks.

There are many game soundtracks which I enjoy listening to. However, the soundtracks I am going to talk about today are so vital to the games in which they appear that I believe the experience of those games would suffer greatly in their absence. To me, a soundtrack (for games, movies, anything) should work hand-in-hand with the rest of the materials to amplify the entire experience. The music should be tailor-made to encompass and support the other constituent elements of the work. It should both feed off those other elements and at the same time breathe life back into them.

Personally, when it comes to games, my opinion is that only two of them I’ve played have ever succeeded at that level. (My friends can probably guess what I’m going to say before reading on, lol.)

NES Nostalgia

A few weeks ago some new players joined my regular Dungeons and Dragons game, and it was immediately apparent that they were going to be a great fit. Not just for the game, but to hang out with in general, as they spoke fluent ‘geek’. One topic we talked about a lot was that of retro games. And today it compelled me to take a trip down memory lane about some of my favorite NES games.
