Dir en grey: Uroboros Remastered & Expanded

I was expecting some great albums in 2012. But I was absolutely not expecting a new Dir en grey CD a mere five months after Dum Spiro Spero. You could make the argument that Uroboros Remasted & Expanded is not actually new, and that is fair. It is a re-release of the 2008 album Uroboros. But it’s those extra two words in the title that really matter.

There are enough changes here to warrant a look from listeners who already own the original.

Rampant: Greedy Monster Wants All

Greedy Monster Wants All is the newest album by Japanese rock-band Rampant. I have been following them with interest for the last four years, and each release has shown some measure of improvement or maturity. Greedy Monster Wants All fortunately continues this upward climb.

“JPN” by Perfume

JPN landed on shelves yesterday. It is Perfume’s third studio album, and the first in two-and-a-half years. JPN solidly reinforces two facts:

  1. Perfume is the cheesiest form of Japanese pop inexplicably and addictively done right.

  2. Purchasing Perfume’s singles is a waste of money.

‘Unchained Girl’ by Anna Tsuchiya

I am a big fan of Anna Tsuchiya. Taste My Beat remains one of my favorite albums despite being six years old. So of course I picked up the recently released Unchained Girl, a triple A-side single. That’s when I noticed the name of the first track was Stayin’ Alive.

Ayumi Hamasaki: Five

This Wednesday Ayumi Hamasaki will be releasing Five, a mini-album presumably named after the fact it has five tracks—sort of. It depends on whether you get the CD version or the CD+DVD combination. I got the former in advanced for review purposes, and so here I am to give you the review.
