Something I was greatly looking forward to in early 2012 was the January 8th premiere of the anime Nisemonogatari (‘Impostory’). It is the sequel to the 2009 anime Bakemonogatari (‘Ghostory’) which I loved for its unique flair, psychotic characters, and clever mixture of comedy, action, and mystery. With two episodes of a planned eleven now over and aired, is the sequel matching up to it’s two and a half year old predecessor?

A friend was asking me for anime recommendations, lamenting having not seen anything good recently. At the moment I was not sure what to suggest, only saying I would put together a list. And since I have done so, I figure why not share it?
These are arranged in no particular order, nor are all of the new; it is simply based on things I have been watching lately.
Astarotte no Omocha

Astarotte no Omocha (Astarotte’s Toy) has the worst premise of any new anime I’ve seen in 2011. It is so terrible I am amazed I sat through two episodes before walking away from this train-wreck.
I have not felt well recently so instead of writing up a proper review I decided to just record my thoughts while watching Itsuka Tenma Kuro no Usagi. The review is not… favorable.
Infinite Stratos

Infinite Stratos (IS) aired at the beginning of the year, so I am pretty late as far as getting around to watching this. It is not often that I have mixed opinions about an anime overall, but my thoughts about IS are severely disparate. There are some amazing qualities to this twelve episode series. And then there are objective mistakes which are just flat-out fucking embarrassing.
Infinite Stratos is a real roller-coaster.
